The A-1's shutter doesn't fire even with batteries inserted. The battery compartment door opens when the grip is removed.
The AL-1's shutter fires when batteries are inserted, but the viewfinder appears dark.
However, the brightness in the viewfinder returns to normal when the film advance lever is activated.
Neither camera is fully functional, so they are being sold as junk.
